Alice Němcová Tejkalová Becomes Chair of Charles University’s Equal Opportunities Board

The Equal Opportunities Board of Charles University is entering a new term with a partially renewed membership. Associate Professor Alice Němcová Tejkalová from ICSJ has become both a member and the new Chair of the board. She has long been active in promoting equal opportunities within the academic environment. In this role, she also becomes a member of the Extended Rector’s Advisory Board.

The Charles University Equal Opportunities Board serves as an advisory body to the Rector on matters related to equal treatment, work–life balance, diversity support, and the development of a fair and respectful university environment. The board includes representatives from the faculties and other constituent parts of Charles University, enabling the sharing of experience across the institution and the formulation of recommendations that reflect the needs of different segments of the academic community.

The board’s new composition builds on its previous work in the field of equal opportunities while also creating space for the further development of issues that are important to both students and employees at Charles University. This year, the board will focus primarily on supporting student parents, benefits for caregivers, equality in research, diversity of teaching resources, inclusive approaches to education, and equal pay.

“For this year and next, our activities are guided by the existing approved action plan, so we will not be embarking on anything revolutionary. However, my ambition is to demonstrate that equal opportunities are not limited to issues of gender or balancing parenthood with studies or work. They concern virtually all of us, in different ways at different stages of our careers. I believe that communicating this perspective will also help foster broader understanding across the academic community,” says Alice Němcová Tejkalová.

In addition to formulating recommendations, the board will continue to serve as a platform for sharing experiences among faculties and other parts of the university. Bringing together diverse perspectives makes it possible to better identify the specific needs of the academic community and seek solutions that benefit the university as a whole.

In 2025, Alice Němcová Tejkalová also received the Cori Couple Award for Contributions to Equal Opportunities.
