The Centre for Doctoral Studies Invites You to a Panel Discussion on the Internationalisation of Academia

What is the relationship between universities and the countries in which they operate? And how can international cooperation in research be combined with respect for local academic traditions and languages? These are among the questions that will be explored at the panel discussion Internationalisation and Academic Nationalism, taking place on 14 September 2026, from 13:00 to 14:30 in room H015 at Hollar. 

Universities are closely connected to the countries in which they operate and to their culture, education and social development. At the same time, academia naturally extends beyond national borders – new knowledge emerges precisely through the sharing of ideas and collaboration among researchers from different parts of the world. 

Organised by the IKSŽ Centre for Doctoral Studies, the panel discussion will therefore open a debate on how to connect the local character of universities with the international nature of academia. The discussion will also focus on how to create a more open and diverse academic environment and overcome barriers related, for example, to social background, gender, age, ethnicity or nationality, while preserving local academic traditions. 

The programme will begin with contributions from five speakers: Nico Carpentier from Charles University and Tallinn University, Robert Silverio from Charles University, Vaia Doudaki from Charles University, Bart Cammaerts from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Josef Seethaler from the Austrian Academy of Sciences. An open discussion will follow.
