This January, Condé Nast announced the transformation of the editorial staff of the Pitchfork, which many considered fatal. A series of Pitchfork obituaries followed, sparking discussions about the future of music journalism. It was just another symptom of the cultural journalism and media crisis we've been experiencing for the past few years.
As part of the Media Mondays course, we welcome a special guest, The Guardian's Laura Snapes, who works as the music section editor, to the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism. She is also a freelance contributor to titles including Pitchfork and NPR; she has previously written for the New York Times and Vogue. She is the author of Liberté, Egalité, Phoenix!, an oral history of the French pop-rock group published by Rizzoli.
In a conversation with a researcher and music journalist, Miloš Hroch, Snapes will discuss how the current crisis affects her editorial work and routines at The Guardian and her relationship with Pitchfork as its long-time external contributor.
The discussion will take place on Monday 4 November 2024 in English from 18.30 in room 215.
