PhD student Daniel Nielsen successfully defends dissertation on the political economy of digital games
PhD student at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Daniel Nielsen, successfully defended his PhD dissertation on March 9, 2026. The title of his dissertation is “Value Extraction of Digital Gameplay: Locating Exchange Relations and Labor Hierarchies in Game Cultures”. -
Wellbeing Day on 12 March 2026 in Jinonice
In the morning of 12 March 2026, you can once again meet therapy dogs and enjoy a tasty breakfast prepared by student clubs in the foyer of building C in the Jinonice Campus. There will be table football you can play. -
ICSJ has a new ombudsperson
The results of the elections of student ombudspeople for the period 2026/2027 are now known. The elections took place on 3 and 4 March 2026 at the Institute of Economic Studies, the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism and the Institute of Sociological Studies. At the Institute of International Studies and the Institute of Political Studies, a single candidate was automatically elected. -

On the occasion of International Women's Day, which we celebrate on March 8, we would like to remind you that gender equality remains an important topic in media, communication, and cultural research. At ICSJ, we approach this issue from many different perspectives – we examine how gender is reflected in working conditions, media representations, gaming culture, and digital trends. -
AGON movie essay is now available online
The movie essay AGON: Constructions of Democracy is now available in the journal Tecmerin: Journal of Audiovisual Essays. The essay was created by Nico Carpentier and Ali Minanto from ICSJ in collaboration with Jhon Sany Purwanto as one of the main outputs of the research project MeDeMAP. -
A new photography exhibition can be seen at Hollar
The corridors of Hollar have been filled with a new photography exhibition presenting the work of ICSJ students from both Czech and English photography courses in the 2024/2025 academic year. The exhibited photographs were created under the supervision of Sandra Lábová, František Géla, and Robert Silverio.
