  • Announcement of Josef Vavroušek Student Award

    Submit your thesis to the competition for Josef Vavroušek Student Award which recognizes outstanding works of a social science or interdisciplinary nature with a social science overlap, following the legacy of Josef Vavroušek as a personality who advocated sustainable development as a harmonious coexistence of man, society and nature with an emphasis on responsibility towards future generations. Application deadline is 24 July 2026.
  • According to international experience, changing the current funding of public service media in the Czech Republic is risky, says expert study

    Changing the current model of financing public service media in the Czech Republic is not necessary; on the contrary, it could jeopardize both the stability of funding and the protection of editorial independence. This conclusion comes from a new analytical study by media scholars from three universities, which offers a systematic overview of available solutions. The analysis is based on a current comparison of thirteen European countries, drawing on structured consultations with national experts on individual media systems.
  • Conference on Hope at ICSJ. Submit by May 10

    The international conference Communicating Narratives, Imaginaries and Epistemes of Hope will take place on 7 September 2026 at the ICSJ FSV UK in Prague. The event is organised as a joint conference of the IAMCR working group Communication, Social Justice and Democracy and will serve as a pre-conference to ECREA 2026.
  • How do military alliances shape support for military interventions globally? Evidence from a cross-national experiment

    In the newly published peer-reviewed article Marek Vranka from the ICSJ FSV UK, together with his colleagues Michal Smetana and Ondřej Rosendorf, analyze whether formal alliance treaties boost public willingness to support military interventions and whether this effect holds beyond the Western world.
  • Golden Courses for Winter Semester 2025/2026

    On Tuesday, 14 April 2026, during the Academic Senate FSV UK meeting, the Golden Courses for the best courses of the Winter Semester 2025/2026 according to the student evaluation were awarded to the lecturers. The award is accompanied by financial reward. Congratulations to all recipients!
